World Health Day, which is April 7th, is annually recognized to bring attention to our health globally. This was first celebrated in 1948 and became officially acknowledged on April 7, 1950. The World Health Organization and other organizations associated with them sponsor this day with the intention to spread information on important health-related topics. Doing our share in educating others, we wanted to express the significance of dental health.

Effects on the Body

Dental health is a fundamental part of our overall well-being. Our mouths are connected to much of our body functions and potential health conditions when not properly cared for. Lack of a good oral hygiene regimen is linked to diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and many other health concerns. The more we do our best in keeping our oral care a priority, the less we need to worry about these medical issues.

Research shows how our dental health is linked to our general health. There are different microorganisms collected in our oral cavity that are safe and actually help us. But some of them that do not belong can become dangerous when bacteria that produce acid are present. This is usually caused by a diet that is high in sugar. Sugar can create an environment that aids in destroying teeth and harming the body as a whole. This occurs when sugar in the food we eat is not completely removed from our bodies. This is why giving the body a detox once in a while is important. It can help the body flush out any unnecessary sugar as well as other toxins. However, if someone is indulged too much in unhealthy eating habits, they can also get themselves checked by a physician. He may likely suggest a detox supplement, so that they don’t need to abstain from their favorite delicacies and still keep themselves healthy.

Lifestyle Habits

A mass amount of health problems, especially in regards to oral care, occur without any symptoms. We have to take care of our teeth and bodies as a whole by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day to help in combating any possible health risks. Drink plenty of water, while avoiding acidic, sugary beverages. Our diet should include lots of fruits, vegetables, and foods that are high in fiber and low in sugar and fat. Last but not least, we must visit the dentist to perform regular checkups to ensure our dental health is at its best. This World Health Day take the time to start implementing these health practices to maintain a great smile.
